You are probably wondering why this is getting me so riled up--the fact is I am living in a supposedly "smoke-free" apartment complex as stated in the lease agreement. I was promised a smoke-free apartment. Residents are not supposed to smoke inside their apartments within 25ft. My downstairs neighbor is not abiding and has not abided since I moved in here. I have suffered allergies, headaches, sinus irritation, and lack of sleep due to the smoke that enters my unit. I have had to purchase a $200 air purifier which is barely helping to reduce the smell. My bedding smells like cigarette smoke and my bathroom smells like Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson threw a party and smoked blunts in it all day. #NoCap

Dear Property Management,
I am writing this letter to request your help with the secondhand smoke
that has been infiltrating my apartment over the past several months. My
downstairs neighbor smokes cigarettes and marijuana almost everyday and
the smell enters my unit via the air vents. I have tried my best to cope
by purchasing an air purifier which I have running 24/7 and shutting off
my air conditioner when the smell starts to enter my vents. I have been
suffering from allergies due to the cigarette smoke and have headaches and
sinus irritation. My cat suffers from asthma and has to get steroid
injections. I am struggling to enjoy living here but it is hard when I
have to constantly breathe in someone else's bad habit. My mother passed
away from lung cancer and was a smoker so this really bothers me. I do not
want to smell it.
I have reached out to the office multiple times searching for a solution
to this problem. I have called, left voicemails, visited the office in
person, and sent emails. I appreciate you putting notices on my neighbor's
door, however it seems as if it is not working.
It is stated within the lease agreement that residents are not to smoke
within the buildings. My downstairs neighbor is not following the lease
agreement. I am struggling to enjoy my apartment which grieves me as I
enjoy living here and appreciate the work your management does to keep the
grounds a clean and comfortable place to live. I am begging you to help me
find a solution so I do not have to breathe in cigarette and majruana
smoke anymore.
I have thought of two options I would like to discuss with you when you
have the chance:
1. Move me to a different studio unit.
2. Have me and the resident below switch units so that way he can still
smoke but it will not be blown up into my air vents anymore.
I am willing to work with you so we can find a solution to this. I do not
wish to move as I enjoy living here and I hope you can understand and help
me deal with this issue. I appreciate everything you do and have done for
me in the past and hope to hear from you soon.
